This cartoon is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Seuss.
QUOTE:
Possible themes for episode VII:
"Post-Ironic Pig: The Movie"
"Post-Ironic Pig Runs For President" (I haven't done much political stuff yet)
"Post-Ironic Pig Survives The Apocalypse" (I probably shouldn't do this, given the ability of PIP cartoons to foretell future events...)
"Post-Ironic Pig's Daytime Talk-Show"
"Post-Ironic Pig Minds His Own Business"
"Post-Ironic Pig Versus Reality TV"
"Post-Ironic Pig Wakes Up In A Bleak Futuristic Nightmare-World Where Computer Geeks Do Battle With Evil Robots"
HA! Something completely different! And do you know how I came up with this and managed to draw it all in one sitting (so to speak)? Well, I'm gonna bore you with the details anyway.
At the video store: "Hmmm, The Grinch is out on video. I should watch that sometime. Grinchy is one of my all-time favourite villains."
Later that day: "So which is my preferred Dr. Seuss book, 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas', or 'The Butter Battle Book'? The latter is a fine, almost cynical tale based on the Cold War, and -- HEY! I could do a Post-Ironic Pig cartoon that follows the Arms Race as seen in the pages of 'The Butter Battle Book'!"
At my desk: "So how does PIP start a war with his neighbour? I know! He suspects him of being a criminal, and buys security stuff. Yeah, that'll reflect the way that countries these days seem to declare war on each other at the drop of a turban/fez/beret/crown/sombrero/pikkelhaub/10-gallon hat."
Later: "Hmmmm, this cartoon is turning out to be disturbingly similar to the current 'War On Terrorism' that's going on these days. Excellent."
Page 3: "Hey, I could make one of the doomsday missiles a 'Tom Cruise' Missile. Heh-heh. And the other one could be a... hmmm... a 'Tom Jones' Bomb! Yeah! Heh heh! Oh man, I am so funny..."
Early the next morning (like after 0100hrs): Finished. Wow, I thought this PIP cartoon would be a small 3-pager but I managed the traditional 4 pages after all."
The next day: "Zzzzzzz. Wake up. Scan. Upload. Type."
And that's how I made this PIP cartoon. Usually, I start the first page at a Funtime Comics workshop and finish the remaining pages over a period of weeks, maybe even months.
Could this be the poignant final of Post-Ironic Pig? Maybe, but then again, maybe not, now that I've realised just how quickly they can be drawn, after all.
"Divorced Duck". I went through the D-section of the Dictionary to find a suitable D-word for this Duck, after rejecting the possibility of him being called "Dandruff Duck". Although Dandruff is an old "Cyril the Squirrel" character, he always wears a tie; NEVER a Hawaiian shirt. The reason as to why this duck wears a Hawaiian shirt is because he starred, namelessly, in Episode II (PIP Saves the Whales) - he's the duck who first pays Post-Ironic Pig for the new breed of tomatoes. Oh yes, I rejected "Diabetic Duck", "Dysfunctional Duck", "Drunk & Disorderly Duck", "Dollar-wise Duck", "Dialysis Duck", "Dilapidated Duck" and even "Delicious (Devilled) Duck", before arriving at "Divorced Duck". Hope you like it. The villain, incidentally, is to be called either "Delinquent Duck" or "Detox Duck".
If you haven't yet read The Butter Battle Book by Dr. Seuss, then DO SO BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE!
